AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
The rising A$ dollar this week has not dampened enthusiasm for merino fibre. All sectors active in good widespread competition. Certified wool especially the broader merinos showed healthy gains in keen competition. Chinese indent buyers showed they are still prepared to accumulate volume across a wide range of types. European interest also active in the finer end with keen interest 16.5 micron and finer. It appears that volume is creating confidence and the problems we face with shearing delays and slow receivals are being absorbed in a healthy market outcome.

Forecast
We are about to enter a period of superfine wool sales in the coming weeks which should see good competition on all best style and strength 18.5 micron and finer, with all sectors active. The fundamentals have not changed, however the players may have. Chinese interests now have to compete with Europe, India and Japan as all are showing signs of good demand in the coming months. As the quality of the selection continues to deteriorate through the autumn period, the importance of securing sufficient high quality merino wool will increase.
