What a difference a week makes in the wool industry. We all of sudden feel that the market has turned to the positive with renewed enthusiasm from exporters and traders. Indent buyers were more active from China and India this week as well as European interests swooping in to secure small useful quantities of high quality fine wool. The selection is still playing a significant role as the large offerings of high VM, overlength, high CVH and mid breaks continue. Preparation has been under the spotlight this week, off the back of the recent IWTO conference in Japan, calling for Australian growers to be vigilant when it comes to quality of preparation and classing of the wool clip. Contamination has also been mentioned as processors are seeing a spike in contaminants found in bales when they arrive at the mill after inspection prior to beginning the journey of processing which can be very costly if machinery is damaged and production is halted for any length of time.

Forecast

We see a quick change in market sentiment as we move into a sale series of approx. 30,000 bales nationally being offered in the coming weeks. This coupled with a small improvement in demand, higher than normal withdrawals and passed in from growers evens the market out for the short term. Caution is still the tone from many as Europe moves toward summer holidays and a quieter period for trading and exports of finished goods out of China remain slow.
